Monroe Community Ambulance is proud to recognize Alexandra Hood as a 2026 Star of Life. Alex joined the MCA team in 2022 as an EMT and quickly discovered a love for EMS. She completed her paramedic training in 2024 and currently holds the position of Senior Paramedic.

Alex has a passion for many disciplines in public safety. In addition to her position at MCA, she also serves as a firefighter for Ida Township Fire Department. As is the case for many first responders, public service is also a family affair. Alex shares a home in Monroe County with her fiancé, MCA Senior Paramedic and 2025 Star of Life recipient Geoffrey Hill, and their family. Alex’s younger brother, Darren also completed his firefighter and EMT training and joined MCA as an EMT in 2026. Her brother’s interest in EMS and the fire service is relevant because it highlights one of Alex’s biggest strengths: the care and empathy she shows for others and her ability to build strong relationships.

You would have difficulty finding anyone who would describe Alex as an introvert. Alex brings an incredible amount of enthusiasm and infectious positive energy to anything she is engaged in, and her career in EMS is no different. Her clinical proficiency and professionalism are a model of what it means to be an excellent paramedic; however, what shines brightest is her ability to establish rapport and engage with her patients, their families, and her colleagues while simultaneously providing quality care. It is in the mentorship she provides to students who complete their internship on her unit, teaching them not only practical skills but instilling an excitement for medicine and helping people. It is in the circle of friends and colleagues she hosts for her weekly book club. It is in reducing patients’ fear of experiencing a serious medical emergency, comforting family members after a loved one passes away, or engaging with a patient in a mental health crisis to deescalate their emotions and get them the care they need. The emotional intelligence and empathy shown in her interactions are difficult to teach, and even more difficult to master. Alex is an embodiment of the Star of Life because if you are inside her ambulance, you will see she is not only taking care of patients, but also taking care of people.
