Joe Abel

Integrated Care Paramedic, Huron Valley Ambulance

Joe Abel has served with Emergent Health Partners since 2010, both with Monroe Community Ambulance and currently as an Integrated Care Paramedic for Huron Valley Ambulance in partnership with TANDEM365, providing care to medically complex patients in their homes. During his more than a decade of service, Joe has held nearly every position in our clinical operations, including EMT, Paramedic, Field Training Officer, Paramedic Supervisor, and Community Paramedic. Additionally, Joe has participated with our Bike Medic team, special event operations, our peer support and critical incident stress management groups, and has supported several incident management teams.

Joe’s passion for EMS and our organization is evident in all he does. Since he joined the EHP team, he has consistently sought ways to support our patients by improving the services we provide.

Joe’s compassion and empathy for his patients seem to know no bounds, and he consistently goes above and beyond to provide the best possible care and outcomes. Recently, Joe’s care for his patients was on display when he went out of his way for a terminally ill TANDEM participant who was having difficulty scheduling and attending their medical appointments. Joe coordinated with the patient, their doctor’s office, and hospice care, ensuring the patient was set up with the services they needed and felt heard and supported. Needless to say, the patient was extremely grateful for Joe’s efforts.

Joe’s enthusiasm for new challenges has always been a strength for him. He aggressively pursues new ventures and quickly masters the skills needed to excel. Joe is always looking for ways to improve his knowledge base—in addition to the many qualifications and certifications he holds, he has also completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Emergency Management and Homeland Security, achieved the Michigan Professional Emergency Manager designation, and is currently working towards a dual Master of Social Work and Master of Science in Disaster Resilience Leadership.

When not busy with work and school, Joe enjoys traveling with his husband, working on his new house, and spending time with his dogs and cats.
