COURSE INFORMATION:

The Paramedic course is a 1,200 hour online and field-based emergency medical training program. You must be a licensed EMT (or eligible for licensure) in the State of Michigan prior to registering for the Paramedic course. Students must also have successfully completed the Anatomy & Physiology for Paramedics course prior to registering for this advanced level training OR have taken a 3-4 credit hour human anatomy & physiology course (with a lab) at an approved college or university within the last 5 years. (Students must submit a transcript prior to the beginning of the course.

This course is approved by the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services Division of EMS. Upon successful completion, students are eligible to take the National Registry Certification test as required by the State of Michigan for licensure. This course prepares students to enter intermediate and/or advanced level emergency response positions in private ambulance services, fire departments, and as hospital emergency room technicians. Students will be evaluated in the following core competency areas: didactic, practical, clinical, and internship performance. In addition, students achieving an 78% or higher and passing the course final computer-based test, will receive a certificate of completion and be eligible for National Registry testing and State licensure. Practical skills are graded on a pass/fail basis and students will be required to pass all practical examinations to successfully complete the program. All clinical and internship rotations are graded on attendance, attitude, and skills performance, which will be evaluated by field mentors, a clinical coordinator, and/or the course instructor.

This is a blended online program – partial classroom and partial online learning. The first class/lab is mandatory, and all students must report to their respective campuses for the first class session.

All labs and practical sessions are mandatory, and students must report to their selected learning location as scheduled for these sessions. All students will receive a course outline on the first day of class which details all of this information. All other lectures and assignments will be completed online with specified deadlines. Some Saturdays may be required. Finalized information will be provided on the first day of classes. Each lab must have a minimum of 8 students to run. If a lab section does not run, students will have the option to switch sections or receive a full tuition refund. Classroom learning will be all online and labs will be in-person at the student’s respective campus – either in Jackson (429 Ingham St, Jackson, MI 49201) or Ann Arbor (1200 State Circle, Ann Arbor, MI 48108). Labs are in-person and are required. Lab Sections meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm-9pm.
